Writing down everything you eat may not seem like a new idea. However, I guarantee that not many people on a diet do it. I never used to write down anything and failed nearly every diet I tried. I literally write down everything I eat now. NO EXCEPTIONS! I log every bit of food that touches my lips on my mobile fitbit app.
Get an app as it is the easiest way of recording everything. How often do you not have your phone on you afterall!?
The act of writing it down and finding out how many calories, grams of fat and how much sugar are in something before you eat it will deter you from eating so many bad foods! It is surprising how many times people say, “I’ve been good all day, I will just have a biscuit or two with my cup of tea.” I am not saying that you shouldn’t do that on the odd occassion but I guarantee that you will forget about that biscuit the next day. When you also look at the calories and realise that two tesco quality range biscuits are over 200 calories you might stop and think like I did the other day!
I always used to think I wasn’t eating that much, but I would forget about the “little” snacks I would have throughout the day. Generally if you can eat something in less than a minute the likelyhood is that you will probably forget you ate it. By logging everything down you can’t forget about anything you have eaten and it will also ensure that you don’t exceed your daily calorie or fat limit that you set yourself.
Writing down the food I eat is probably the best thing I have ever done to make me understand not only the portion sizes I should be having but also eliminating the quick snacking!
